The word Quad is short for QUADRILATERAL. As the name suggests, it includes four countries. The ‘Quadrilateral Security Dialogue’ includes India, America, Australia and Japan. It was formed in 2007, but it could not come into effect after Australia came out of it. After this, it was activated again in 2017.

What is the purpose of Quad?
The purpose of this organization is to stop the growing dominance of China in the Indo-Pacific region. The Quad gives India a platform to participate in joint naval exercises and operations with the US, Japan and Australia. This increases both the efficiency and capability of the Indian Navy. Along with this, maritime power can be increased by mutual coordination of the navies. Since China has been constantly opposing the QUAD. Therefore, it is also believed that the Quad is a means to respond to China. Because of the QUAD, India is becoming able to respond to maritime challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.
