Video: Tug of war between UP Police and BJP workers for Rahul Gandhi's effigy

Hapur:

A strange tug of war was seen between some policemen and BJP workers in Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh (UP) on Friday. The cause of dispute between both the parties was the effigy of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

BJP workers took out a march in protest against the statement given by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on reservation during his visit to America. They also tried to burn his effigy. However, the police did not allow this effort of BJP workers to succeed. In the pictures of the incident, policemen are seen running away after snatching pieces of the effigy and BJP workers are seen chasing them.

While speaking to students of Georgetown University in America, Rahul Gandhi had said that Congress would think about ending reservation when “India will be a fair place.” He claimed that this is not the case yet.

BJP MP Bhola Singh said, “Rahul Gandhi ji is a very senior leader of the Congress. He is the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha. He has given such a statement after going to America… This is a very condemnable statement.”

He said, “All Scheduled Caste workers were present in the protest. They should apologize to the countrymen, all SC, ST and OBC people.”

Rahul Gandhi’s comment was strongly condemned. After this he clarified and said, “Yesterday someone misrepresented my statement that I am against reservation. But let me make it clear, I am not against reservation. We will take reservation beyond the 50 percent limit. .”

Taking aim at Rahul Gandhi over his statement, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that whenever he has to say something “nonsense”, he says it in America. Shah said, “They accuse us of ending reservation and he (Rahul) said there (in America) in English that he will end reservation.”

He said, “How will you do this? This is our government. As long as there is even a single BJP MP in the Parliament, reservation for Dalits and backward classes cannot end.”
