Truth will prevail... said Siddaramaiah on the rejection of the petition from Karnataka High Court in the land scam case

Bengaluru:

A land scam case will be filed against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday upheld the order of Governor Thawarchand Gehlot and dismissed Siddaramaiah’s petition. Justice M. Nagaprasanna said, “It is necessary to investigate the things mentioned in the petition. The CM’s family is involved in the land scam case (MUDA Land Scam Case), so his petition is dismissed.” Meanwhile, the BJP has demanded Siddaramaiah’s resignation.

In fact, on August 16, Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot gave permission to prosecute Siddaramaiah under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 and Section 218 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) 2023. CM Siddaramaiah challenged the Governor’s order in the High Court on August 19.

Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Prof. Ravi Varma Kumar appeared on behalf of Siddaramaiah. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued on behalf of the Governor. Advocate General Shashi Kiran Shetty presented his arguments on behalf of the state government.

I believe in the law and the constitution
Now after the petition was rejected in the High Court, Siddaramaiah said that his truth will definitely come out in front of everyone. After this decision, Siddaramaiah said, “I believe in the law and the constitution. In the end, the truth will come out. Truth will prevail.” He also said that the central government led by PM Modi is doing politics with a spirit of revenge.

What was the matter?
A complaint has been filed against Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, his wife, brother-in-law and some officials in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land scam. Activists T.J. Abraham, Pradeep and Snehmayi Krishna had filed a petition in this case. They allege that CM Siddaramaiah, in collusion with MUDA officials, fraudulently acquired expensive sites.

How did the Karnataka government know what the Lokayukta wrote? : The Governor wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary and sought an answer

Siddaramaiah had said that the land was received as a gift
Siddaramaiah’s wife Parvati had 3 acres of land in Kesare village of Mysore district. This land was gifted to her by Parvati’s brother Mallikarjuna in 2010. MUDA had developed Devnur Stage 3 layout without acquiring this land. Actually, in the year 1992, the urban development institute Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) had acquired some land from farmers to develop it into a residential area. In return, under MUDA’s Incentive 50:50 scheme, the acquired land owners were given 50% site in the developed land or an alternative site. Meanwhile, in 1992, MUDA denotified this land and separated it from agricultural land.

After this, in 1998, MUDA denotified a part of the acquired land and returned it to the farmers. That is, once again this land became agricultural land. The matter got stuck regarding 3 acres of land.

BJP demands resignation of Siddaramaiah
Meanwhile, the BJP, which is in opposition in Karnataka, has demanded Siddaramaiah’s resignation from the post of CM. Union Minister Prahlad Joshi has called the High Court’s decision a slap on the face of the Congress government and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Joshi said, “The Karnataka High Court has answered all the questions raised. Now Siddaramaiah should resign so that the CBI can conduct an impartial investigation in this matter…”

Congress defends Siddaramaiah
Congress has also defended Siddaramaiah in this matter. Congress national spokesperson Shama Mohammed said, “Many leaders of JDS and BJP also got this land. That means they too were allotted land.” Shama Mohammed took a dig at the slogan ‘Satyamev Jayate’ of some BJP leaders and said, “All this happened during the BJP rule… The decision came today, but the Chief Minister will explore other possibilities. Truth will surely prevail.”
