The upward trend that was continuing in the stock market for the past few days has ended today. On Wednesday, 21 August, both the benchmark indices of the stock market started trading in the red. Sensex fell 135.61 points (0.17%) to open at 80,667.25 points and Nifty slipped 18.30 points (0.074%) to open at 24,680.55 points.
In the sectoral index, apart from banking, IT, Fin Services, Realty and Services sectors are down while Metal, FMCG, Pharma and Media are trading in the green.
Among the 30 companies listed on the Sensex, UltraTech Cement, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Tech Mahindra, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, IndusInd Bank, Power Grid and Axis Bank were among the losers, while Adani Ports, Larsen & Toubro, Bharti Airtel, Nestle India, Hindustan Unilever, Bajaj Finserv and others were among the gainers.
Market experts say that there are good signs in the Indian markets. Profit booking is being seen in the defense and railway shares which have become expensive. At the same time, there is a boom in the finance shares which are available at cheap and right valuation. This is very good for the market.
On the previous day, the Sensex closed at 80,802 with a gain of 378 points or 0.47 percent and the Nifty closed at 24,698 with a gain of 126 points or 0.51 percent. According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital market. They sold shares worth Rs 1,457.96 crore on Tuesday.
