Oldest know Solar Eclipse reference found in rig veda new study reveals-lattestnews24

Oldest Solar Eclipse: Solar eclipse is a matter of curiosity for the whole world. In India, people believe in its religious aspect more than its scientific aspect. Especially in Hinduism, many rules are followed. The doors of temples are closed. Sutak period is also followed before the eclipse. Now scientists have got important information about solar eclipse from Rig Veda, one of the four major Vedas of Hinduism. When astronomers studied Rig Veda, they found out that it mentions a solar eclipse that happened 6 thousand years ago. This is the oldest information found so far about solar eclipse.

According to a Space.com report, the language of the Rig Veda is mostly symbolic and allegorical. This makes it a little difficult to understand which things are myths and which are historical. However, two scientists tried to understand the Rig Veda. These include Mayank Vahia of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai and Mitsuru Soma of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan. Both of them think that they have found indications of ancient solar eclipse in the Rig Veda.

Scientists have reported their findings in the Journal of Astronomical History and Heritage. According to the report, the Rigveda was compiled in 1500 BC. Most of the information written in it is contemporary, that is, at the time when the Vedas were written. However, historical events are also mentioned in the Rigveda. From one such description, scientists have got information about the solar eclipse.

After reading the Rigveda, scientists have told about two possible dates of solar eclipse. The first is-
22 October, 4202 BC and 19 October, 3811 BC. These two dates have become the oldest dates to mention a solar eclipse. Earlier, scientists had found a clay tablet from an excavation in Syria. It mentions solar eclipses in 1375 BC and 1223 BC. A carving on a rock in Ireland refers to an eclipse in 3340 BC. Now the Rigveda has presented even older dates. If those years of BC are connected to the present time, then a mention of a 6 thousand year old solar eclipse has been found in the Rigveda.
