New Delhi:

E-commerce giant Amazon on Wednesday announced the appointment of Sameer Kumar as the country manager of India. The company took this decision after the resignation of the current country manager of India Manish Tiwari.

Giving information about the change in top leadership, the company said, Sameer Kumar is working closely with Manish Tiwari on this change. Sameer Kumar will take over operational responsibilities for India from October 1.

Sameer Kumar joined Amazon in 1999. He was part of the original team that planned and launched amazon.in in 2013.

Amit Agarwal, Amazon’s senior vice president for emerging markets, said in an internal email, “Sameer Kumar, who has over 25 years of experience with Amazon, will now oversee the company’s India consumer business, as Manish Tiwary, the current ‘Country Manager’ of Amazon India, has decided to explore opportunities outside Amazon…”

Manish Tiwari resigned in August

It is worth noting that Amazon India’s country head Manish Tiwari resigned from his post in the first week of August. At that time, a statement issued by the company said that Manish Tiwari will remain in the post till October 2024 for transition. It was also said in the statement that during this time Senior Vice President (India and Emerging Markets) Amit Agarwal will remain closely associated with the Amazon India team.

Amazon has invested ₹54500 crores in India since 2013

Amazon first arrived in India in 2013, and launched India’s first online shopping website on June 5, 2013. The website initially sold only books, but since then Amazon has invested more than US$6.5 billion (approximately ₹54,557 crores) in infrastructure such as supply chain, logistics and warehousing in India. The company claims to have created more than 11 lakh jobs directly or indirectly in India, and aims to double this number of jobs by 2025.
