President Draupadi Murmu took part in several programs in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday. Cleaning friends were also honored and Participated in the Diamond Jubilee Year Convocation of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore. The President said that to achieve the goal of making India the most developed nation in the world by the year 2047, women need to be encouraged to acquire higher education and become self-reliant. At a program in Ujjain, the President said that only cleanliness will make the country healthy and developed.
At the convocation ceremony in Indore, the President called for half the population to get help from every section. The President said, “I would like to tell all educational institutions and teachers to encourage daughters to pursue higher education and become self-reliant because we want to make India the most developed and leading country by 2047.”
The President remembered Devi Ahilyabai, the ruler of the former Holkar dynasty of Indore, on her 300th birth anniversary for her efficient administration, justice, women empowerment, public welfare works and her historic contribution in the fields of tribal development. The President said, “The life of Devi Ahilyabai is an example of how women can bring revolutionary changes by becoming active in all fields including political, social, economic and spiritual fields.”
Draupadi Murmu said that Devi Ahilyabai understood the importance of education even in the 18th century and her father educated her at a time when it was not common for girls to study and people of the society also opposed it. The convocation was also addressed by the state Governor Mangu Bhai Patel and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur and former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan were also present on this occasion.
Cleanliness will make the country healthy and developed: President
President Draupadi Murmu on Thursday appealed to the people to come forward towards cleanliness at a program in Ujjain and said that only cleanliness will make India healthy and developed. Addressing the Safai Mitra Sammelan here, Murmu also praised Indore city of Madhya Pradesh for topping the cleanliness survey for the seventh time in a row and Bhopal for being the capital of the cleanest state in the country.
Murmu appealed to the people to take a step forward to make the country ‘clean, healthy and developed’. The President expressed hope that people living in the villages and streets of the country will come forward to work under the Swachh Bharat Mission and only by doing so the country will be able to implement Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of cleanliness. He said, “We all know that a step towards cleanliness will help in keeping the country clean. We all should move forward to make the country clean, healthy and developed.” He said that Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) has become a nationwide movement in the last 10 years and has resulted in widespread changes in the country.
Awareness about cleanliness has increased among people: President
The President said that due to the Swachh Bharat Mission, people have become more aware of cleanliness and their behaviour has changed a lot in this regard. Murmu also recalled that she started her public life with cleanliness in her hometown in Odisha, where she served as the vice-chairman of the Notified Area Council. She said, “I used to go from one ward to another to inspect the cleaning work and discuss the issue with Safai Mitras and others.”
The President also praised the role of Safai Karmacharis and called them frontline warriors as they played a major role in keeping the city clean and protecting citizens from various diseases related to filth. On the occasion, Murmu felicitated five Safai Mitras including four women and also laid the foundation stone of Ujjain-Indore six-lane road to be constructed at a cost of Rs 1,692 crore.
