Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah gets a big blow from the High Court, MUDA case will be run, understand what this scam is

Bengaluru:

The Karnataka High Court has dismissed the petition of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in which he had challenged the decision of Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot to grant sanction for prosecution against him in the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land scam case.

  1. The High Court had completed its hearing in the case on September 12 and reserved its order.
  2. Today, a single bench of Justice M. Nagaprasanna has given its verdict in this case. Justice M. Nagaprasanna’s bench ruled that the Governor can take “independent decision” and Gehlot has “fully used his mind. As far as the order to prosecute the Chief Minister is concerned, there is no fault in the actions of the Governor”.
  3. Siddaramaiah had approached the High Court on August 19 challenging the validity of the Governor’s order.
  4. In the petition requesting to cancel the order of the Governor, the Chief Minister had said that the approval order was issued without thinking and it was a violation of statutory rules.
  5. Siddaramaiah has been accused of irregularities in the allotment of 14 plots to his wife by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
  6. The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka has alleged that the MUDA has “illegally” allotted alternative land in a posh area to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife Parvati in lieu of “acquiring” about four acres of land owned by her.
  7. He had termed the allegations against him as false and said that he would not do anything wrong in the future and his life was an open book.
  8. The chief minister had rejected the allegation, saying his wife was entitled to alternative land under the ’50:50 ratio’ scheme launched by the previous BJP government as the MUDA had allotted plots on her land without acquiring it.
  9. Under this scheme, if one acre of undeveloped land of any person is acquired, then he will get one-fourth acre of developed land in return.
  10. Siddaramaiah, who hails from Mysuru, had also claimed that his wife was given alternative land during the previous BJP government and not when he was the chief minister.
