"It is like a boon for me..." : Adani Foundation changed the lives of 18 farmers of Maharashtra

New Delhi:

The lives of one and a half dozen farmers of Gowari village in Maharashtra have changed for the better, thanks to the Cement Nala Bund (CNB) constructed by ACC, a cement company owned by Adani Foundation and Adani Group, as part of its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) efforts.

Situated in Yavatmal district, this village was facing water scarcity due to the lack of reliable rainfall and dry conditions. But the dam has increased the number of active borewells and the cultivable area has also expanded by 11.78 percent, recharging the ground water table. According to a press release, the embankment has benefited 18 farmers and 25 hectares of agricultural land.

According to the release, “Adani Foundation collaborated with Dilasa Jan Vikas Pratishthan to undertake a project to construct Cement Nala Bund (CNB) to improve water retention and recharge the groundwater table…”

Before the construction of the dam, due to the limited availability of water, 18 farmers were deprived of farming, which also affected their income.

But now the situation is not like this.

For Bhaskar Wasekar, one of the farmers who benefitted from the dam, it has been a life-changing change. The availability of water on his land has increased by 75 per cent, from 4 to 7 hours every day. This has allowed him to cultivate more land than before, which has also helped him diversify his crops. According to the release, it has also increased his annual income by 35 per cent.

Bhaskar Wasekar says, “The cement nala bund has been a boon for me… I no longer have to worry about water for my crops… Now, I can grow more crops, develop new crops and ensure a secure future for my family…”

Similar changes have come in the lives of 17 other farmers of the village.

ACC and Adani Foundation say, “ACC and Adani Foundation’s commitment to sustainable community development is reflected in their collaborative efforts to achieve positive and life-changing results, as seen in the CNB project… The project has not only improved the lives of the farmers of Gowari, but has also instilled hope and resilience in the entire community…”
