Whenever you visit a temple and eat prasad, you must be thinking about its purity. Millions of Hindus across the country are asking themselves the same question as to how the shocking incident that happened at Tirupati Balaji temple came to light. A recent report has revealed that animal fat has been found in the prasad of Tirupati Balaji temple. This shocking revelation came when tests conducted in laboratories confirmed the presence of animal fat in the ghee used to make laddus.
animal fat mixed in ghee
The controversy started when Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu raised concerns based on a report by the NDDB (National Dairy Development Board) that said the ghee used in the temple was not pure. The investigation confirmed that one of the ghee suppliers, AR Dairy Food Pvt Ltd, had adulterated animal fat in the ghee supplied to the temple.
When the manufacturers supplying ghee to the temple were supplying it at a price much lower than the market price, people associated with the temple organization started getting suspicious. In such a situation, the demand for checking the quality of ghee started rising. As the suspicion deepened, the ghee of all the dairies supplying ghee to the temple was tested. Let us tell you that Premier Agri Foods, Kriparam Dairy, Vaishnavi, Sri Parag Milk and AR Dairy Food used to supply ghee to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD).
Vigilance increased in temples
At the same time, this incident has also affected other temples across India. Officials are being extra cautious at Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi. The administration has started checking the purity of the laddus made in the temple. Varanasi SDM (Sub-Divisional Magistrate) Shambhu Sharan Singh himself tasted the laddus and ordered regular checks to ensure the quality of the prasad.
Laddu has got GI tag
Tirupati Balaji temple of Andhra Pradesh is dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. For the last 300 years, special ‘laddu’ is being given as prasad to the Hindu devotees visiting the temple and this laddu has also got GI tag in the year 2014. This means that this laddu named Tirupati Tirumala can be found only in Tirupati temple of Andhra Pradesh.
This temple is also known by other names like Tirumala Temple, Tirupati Temple and Tirupati Balaji Temple. This temple is run by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), which comes under the jurisdiction of the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
