New Delhi :

Support for India’s claim for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council is continuously increasing. Permanent countries of the United Nations Security Council like Britain, France and America also believe that India should be in it. Union Minister Piyush Goyal has shared a video on Twitter, in which leaders of various countries are seen supporting India’s claim. Through this, Goyal has told that discussions are in full swing for India’s permanent membership in UNSC.

While sharing the video, Piyush Goyal wrote, “This is the strength of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

In this video, French President Emmanuel Macron, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro and Chilean President Gabriel Boric are seen supporting India.

Stormer supported India

British Prime Minister Keir Stormer on Thursday supported India’s claim. Before Stormer, the leaders of America and France had supported India’s permanent membership in the UNSC. During his address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Thursday, Stormer called for substantive reforms to make the global multilateral system “more accountable”.

He said that India, Japan, Brazil and Germany should be made permanent members of UNSC. He said that along with this, more seats should be increased for elected members. He said it should be a body that is ready to take action and not one that is “paralyzed by politics”.

Delivering his first address to the UNGA as British Prime Minister after July’s general election, the Labor Party leader also outlined a change in Britain’s approach.

French President Macron also in support

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday also supported India’s bid for permanent membership in the UNSC to make the United Nations more efficient and representative.

He had said, “France is in favor of the expansion of the Security Council.” Germany, Japan, India and Brazil should be permanent members, along with two countries whose representation will be decided by Africa.

Permanent member has veto power

US President Joe Biden had also given a statement in favor of such expansion of UNSC. The five permanent members are Russia, Britain, China, France and America, who have the power to ‘veto’ any concrete UN resolution.

India has been at the forefront of efforts at the UN for long-pending reform of the Security Council and has insisted that it rightfully deserves a place in the UN body as a permanent member.
