'False records created in police station', investigation agency makes big claim in court in RG Kar case

New Delhi:

The CBI, which is investigating the rape incident at RG Kar Medical College, has made a big claim in the court. The CBI has claimed that some false records related to the case were created at Tala police station. The central agency, appointed by the Calcutta High Court to investigate the murder of a junior doctor last month, also said that it has CCTV footage from the concerned police station, and it has been sent to a central forensic laboratory in the city for investigation. The Kolkata Police has not yet responded on the issue.

The CBI, which had conducted custodial interrogation of Tala police station in-charge Abhijit Mandal and former medical college principal Sandip Ghosh, informed the court that its investigation had revealed “new/additional” facts which showed that some wrong records related to the case were created/altered at Tala police station. It said the agency had arrested Mandal on September 14, while Ghosh was taken into custody on September 15 in the rape and murder case following a court order. The CBI had arrested prime suspect Sanjoy Roy on August 10, a day after the gruesome incident, as “his role in the crime had already come to light.”

Questions were raised on the police investigation
The main suspect Sanjay Roy was arrested by the police in this case. On Wednesday, the agency produced Mandal and Ghosh in the court after the completion of their remand. After this, the court sent them to judicial custody till September 30.

CBI is continuously questioning
Let us tell you that on Tuesday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had again questioned a doctor of the hospital’s ‘Forensic’ department. The central agency had also questioned Dr. Apurva Biswas on Monday. He was asked why the doctor’s post-mortem was done after sunset in violation of the rules. The officer said that he was also questioned about the reasons behind the “haste” in collecting samples from the seminar hall, where the doctor’s body was recovered on August 9. The CBI officer said, “His answers have been recorded in the document. If needed, we will call him again for questioning.”

Junior doctors partially returned to work, agitation continues
Meanwhile, junior doctors partially returned to work on Saturday after being on strike for more than 40 days in protest against the murder of their colleague. However, only essential and emergency services have started now. Doctors have been protesting since August 9. The government is continuously trying to negotiate with the agitators.
