ED seizes property worth Rs 8.24 crore of former MLA Arif Anwar Hashmi


New Delhi:

A major action has been taken against former MLA Arif Anwar Hashmi in Uttar Pradesh. The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has seized his 21 immovable properties worth Rs 8.24 crore.

These properties include residential flats, agricultural land and commercial land, which are located in Lucknow, Balrampur and Gonda. ED has taken this action under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.

Arif Anwar Hashmi is accused in several cases. These include charges like criminal conspiracy, cheating, fraud and forgery. He has also been declared a gangster under the Uttar Pradesh Gangster Act.

ED investigation has revealed that Arif Anwar Hashmi has been involved in illegal land acquisition and occupation cases since 1984. He manipulated government documents and changed the nature of land for illegal gains in connivance with others. He earned huge amounts of illegal money by running businesses and colleges on the occupied land.

The ED has said that the properties seized have been acquired from the proceeds of crime and are disproportionate to the known sources of income of Arif Anwar Hashmi and his wife Rosie Salma. Investigation into the cases against them is ongoing.
