Himachal government follows Yogi model: The Congress government in Himachal Pradesh passed an order on Wednesday on the lines of the Yogi government. In this order, instructions were given to prominently display the names of the owners and staff members in all street vendors and food establishments (food shops). This move is being seen as following in the footsteps of the Yogi Adityanath government. The Yogi government has said that the objective of the decision is to bring cleanliness and hygiene in food shops.
What did the Urban Development Minister say?
Himachal’s Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh, while briefing the media on Wednesday, said that the state government has taken a decision similar to that of Uttar Pradesh to ensure people have access to clean and hygienic food. Vikramaditya said, “The Urban Development Ministry and the Municipal Corporation in a meeting took this decision collectively keeping in mind the fears and apprehensions of the people about the availability of food at food stalls. We have decided to strictly implement the rules in the state like Uttar Pradesh.”
Reservation will apply
Vikramaditya Singh further said that those selling food on the streets will have to prominently display their name and ID. If any complaint is received regarding food and menu, appropriate action will be taken. When he was questioned about restricting food vendor licenses only to Himachal residents, he expressed his opinion against it, although he said that reservation is being considered in giving new licenses.
How to get reservation
The Urban Development Minister said, “Local people will be given priority in granting licenses, while people from the Dalit community and the disabled category will be entitled to a certain amount of reservation.” Earlier, he also wrote on his Facebook, “To ensure that people do not face any difficulty, every restaurant and fast-food outlet will be required to display the owner’s ID. Instructions for this have been issued in the Urban Development and Municipal Corporation meeting held yesterday.
UP government’s decision
A day earlier, the Uttar Pradesh government issued detailed guidelines for all eateries and food shops operating in the state. They were directed to display the names of owners, install CCTV cameras and keep a strict watch on food adulteration. The UP chief minister also warned against adulteration of any food item, citing incidents of mixing human waste in food items in other states. A day earlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had made it mandatory for eateries to display the names of owners, managers and employees outside their shops. Installing CCTVs has also been made mandatory in hotels and restaurants.
